Buckby temporary repair

You may remember this picture I posted just before Christmas. Its the steel plates on the side of a lock wall on the Buckby flight of locks . The locks had just opened after a 7 week stoppage and I was a bit surprised to see this temporary repair after the stoppage. I contacted Canal and River Trust to ask them the reason for the plates.

Last week they kindly sent me the reply below

Hi Gary

I apologise for the delay in our response, this is our first week back from our Christmas break.

Once again thank you for your positive feedback regarding our work, the teams do work hard within tight timescales to produce quality work such as this.

I have spoken with the supervisor for the area who can confirm the reason the steel plates have been installed is to protect the lock wall which needs brickwork repairs. These will be carried out in stoppage season 2016/17. They are fixed with bolts and chemical resin the expanding foam is only to fill the void.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards

Amy

A bit of a shame that the repair wasnt carried out during this stoppage but they must have had their reasons for not doing it . At least we now know there will be yet another stoppage on the Buckby flight during 2016/17.

  1. Can you ask them if the expanding foam is waterproof because most of them are not.
