Unencumbered

IMG_5928With Carolyn and Curly doing a late evening workout on the towpath this was to be our last night on the Nottingham canal before dropping down onto the river Trent.

We had been having a good sleep until four in the morning when I heard someone on our roof .I got out of bed and saw someone jumping off with my fishing landing net. I shouted at him to “stop” and put it back as he got on his bike and started cycling away . Meanwhile Carolyn opened the back doors and asked him what he was doing. He said that he was just borrowing it to get something out of the canal. A likely story ,but he did walk back and put the net back on the boat. Fortunately incidents like this don't happen very often ,lets just hope we have no more problems like this during our stay in Nottingham.

IMG_5952Not getting back to sleep we did a early shop in Sainsbury's and headed to the first of two locks which is Castle Lock and is next to a pub . I loved this sign and don't think I have seen the word unencumbered on a lock.

IMG_5955After dropping down the lock we passed the old British Waterways which is now believe it or not a Wetherspoons.

IMG_5958We have passed lots of football grounds on our travels and this time we pass the home of Nott's County.

IMG_5961With Inca on the services in the distance filling with water I go ahead and prepare Meadow Lane lock which will drop us down 8 feet onto the river Trent.

IMG_5963As we came out of the lock we were surprised to see The City ground which is the home of Nottingham Forest . It’s a long time since I've been to a game so it might be worth seeing if we can get tickets .

IMG_5966We were lucky to pick up a mooring just above Trent bridge which is only a stones throw from Trent bridge cricket ground . Now there's a thought a game of football and a game of cricket . I will have to check out the fixture lists and see what we can sort out.

IMG_5994How lucky are we to be moored in front of our friend Ray on Nb Ferndale . We were soon sat out on the steps and having a catch up. With Ray’s love of sport it looks like we could be taking in a game of football and T20 cricket together.

What a great mooring it is down here on the river and so much better than the ones up on the canal, I just wished we had come down here earlier. With great views and plenty going on around us It looks like we will be spending a bit more time here than we had intended to.

                                                                                                                  Happy Days

  1. And a good Wetherspoons near the cricket ground. And pleasant walks with Hamish.
