Loving Nottingham

IMG_6008Just across the river Trent from our mooring is a most impressive war memorial with gardens which we thought we might go and have a look at. The memorial stands in the eastern part of the Grade II-registered Memorial Gardens, Victoria Embankment, Nottingham. The eastern arc of the gateway and colonnade overlooks the River Trent, whilst the gateway is aligned to the central ornamental pond of the Memorial Gardens to the west.

IMG_6012The ornamental pond which is a most relaxing place to sit and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet.

IMG_6019The River Trent is well known for flooding and here at Trent bridge are the flood levels which the etched in to the stone work. Its a good job we weren't stood here back in 2000.

IMG_6005With Ray moored behind us it wasn't long before we decided to go out for a drink and a bite to eat . Well it would have been rude not to especially with such good company .

IMG_6033What a pleasant surprise to see our number one son Jamie and his fiancé in Nottingham . They have been looking for a new car for a long time and found that it was far better to buy up North as the prices were a lot lower than back down in Devon . They ended up getting a Ford Mondeo just a few miles from where we were moored. Needless to say with a Wetherspoons nearby we had a meal and a drink before they returned back to sunny Devon.

IMG_6048The following day we decided to see if we could get tickets to watch Nottingham Forest play in the Championship. We thought it would just be a case of going to the ticket office and paying , but it was not that simple . Because it was a big game they needed us to have a local address or know a season ticket holder who could vouch for us to prove that we weren't away supporters trying to get in with the home supporters. We explained that we were visiting on our boats and were not local and with mine and Carolyn's West country accent along with Rays Australian accent there shouldn't be a problem. The guy said he would go and speak to his manager and see what he could do. Luckily after a right old ordeal he said we would be OK and sold us our tickets at £26 each.(ouch)

IMG_6050We thought we would have a quick look around the club shop where Carolyn suggested buying a couple of Forest shirts or hats for when we go to the game. Typical women not having a clue about sport. I am a life long Tottenham supporter and would get absolutely slaughtered if anyone was to see me in a Forest shirt.

IMG_6053It was then a short walk to Trent bridge where we bought tickets with no problem for a T20 blast game at only £17 each . It’s been a long time since we've been to a cricket match so we are really looking forward to a great weekend of cricket and Football.

                                                                                                    Happy Days
