What a dilemma

IMG_6420With high winds forecast on Sunday we decided to stay on our mooring on the summit of the South Oxford canal . I got myself all set up to watch my beloved Spurs in the final of The Capital One Cup, but what a disaster that was ,even though they had more possession . At 2-0 down there was only one thing to do, Have a glass or 3 of the red stuff to drown my sorrows.

IMG_6427A picture for Ann on Nb Oakfield….. Personally i think it would look better on our roof and then burning away in our stove.( ready for incoming flack )

IMG_6433This is a dilemma that often happens . You close the gates after leaving a lock and then when you look back it has opened again all by itself .So what do you do, go back and shut it again or as you have already closed it once do you just leave it open??.

IMG_6443Dropping down the Napton flight of locks with the Sun shinning on Napton on the Hill.

IMG_6464With very high winds some boaters had real problems. The guy in the picture above couldn't get his boat into the bank using his centre rope.

IMG_6466After 6 hours cruising we eventually arrived at one of our favourite moorings which is a couple of miles South of Braunston. With more heavy winds forecast we will have a day or two here before moving again. We do have a few small jobs to do on Inca,so that should keep us busy for a few hours.

                                                                                               Happy Days

  3. We have closed it once . We are not closing it twice only for it to open yet again !!

  4. We always shut gates...........only once. If it opens then so be it. After all it would probably open again so you might as well leave well alone.

    1. Hi Ian and Irene. It's just the funny looks you sometimes get when passing a boat that is heading to the lock you have just left with open gates !!

  5. We sometimes leave them after 2 goes at trying to shut and hold. Other times we let a wee bit of water in to keep them shut. Depends on how we feel or our timetable, if we have one.

    3. Hi Mark , My advice would be to find out as much as you can . Canal world Discussion Forum is a great place to start. As well as all the magazines and other boaters blogs. Look down the right side of our blog and you will see a lot of people who live aboard and cruise like us. The photography will certainly be a bonus .....
