A little rant

IMG_6490Our mooring at Fox’ gate is on a long straight and luckily for most of the time we have had it all to ourselves. But the one big disadvantage about being on a long straight is speeding boats. Its started to get busy again and as we are close to several big marinas there are a lot of boats moving about. The rule is when approaching moored boats you should slow down to tick over 2 to 3 boat lengths before reaching the moored boat, and then pass on tick over. But for some reason most of the boats do slow ,but not until they reach the moored boat and then not always on tick over when passing. We have had to put springs on our mooring to stop us getting bumped about. I'm not sure why so many people are in a hurry, I Can see no reason what so ever to speed on canals, Its all about enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the canals and a slower pace of life…Rant over (For now)

  2. Just tie your boat up correctly and stop whinging! There are too many boats on line these days, you would never get anywhere if you slowed down for them all!! Thats life and canals these days, get used to it......

    1. Sorry but I totally disagree with that .Its not always about having your boat tied up correctly. Have you never moored where the bank is very soft and pins can be easily pulled out? We have longer pins for that situation ,but lots of boats especially hire boats do not.
Perhaps it would be a good idea for all boaters to watch the Canal and River Trusts Boaters handbook video, the link below tells you how you should pass moored boats . Just fast forward to 23 minutes and 45 seconds.

ps If ever you are ever passing Inca please slow down and give us a wave. We will even make you a brew and have a talk if you have the time to stop.

      Regards Gary
