Ouch , that hurt

to the weaver 017We finally get onto the Middlewich branch after leaving the Llangollen and spending a night at Barbridge . We haven't bought any diesel for nearly 7 weeks and we wouldn’t pay the sky high prices on the Llangollen  so we needed to fill up. We filled up at Venetian marina where the price was 89p a litre, unfortunately it had just gone up by 2p the day before. We also needed a gas cylinder which was £27.50. So with 214 litres of diesel and a gas cylinder (Ouch that hurt the wallet) we should be ok for a month or two.

to the weaver 015It’s a long time since we have been in locks as deep as this and at over 11 foot deep it seems a long way to the top when you are at the bottom.

to the weaver 034The perfect picture , apart from my glass being empty.

to the weaver 061We have named this bridge on the middlewich Carolyn's bridge as she took a big chunk out of it as she tried to steer through it…But she is getting better at steering !!!

to the weaver 012Another good boat name for me.

to the weaver 081Sunset on the middlewich.

to the weaver 085One of the strangest narrow boats we have ever seen.

to the weaver 092On this lock you can see the slit in the bridge which crosses the lock. This was to allow the rope from a boat to a horse to pass through.

to the weaver 114After turning left at the end of the middlewich branch we did a Tesco shop in the town then headed off out into the country. We picked up this mooring in a wide section of canal and with the temperature in the twenties, as usual we just chilled out and watched the world go by. We are heading towards The Anderton boat lift, I have always wanted to go on the lift although Carolyn is not that happy about going down onto the river Weaver. I am sure I can convince her it will be ok….fingers crossed.

                                                                                                                 Happy Days

    2. What do you mean ouch. Youve not felt pain yet, Farndon Marina on the River Trent £1.15 litre. Were empty but I would only put £50 in to wet the tank. Praying were not going to have to go back for more. Pirates or what ! Have fun on the Weaver. Fran & Stew

    3. At £1.15 I wouldn't be able to sleep for a week if I paid that. Is it that much everywhere on the Trent? Carolyn said she will ring you later ...

    1. Hi Pam and Terry ..we are enjoying so far , it is so similar to the river Dart back down in good old Devon. We did from Saul Junction to Gloucester last year in March when we bought Inca, but it was very cold ...all the best Gary and Carolyn.......
